World Upside Down | Uprooting Idols (Acts 19:21-41)

Acts 19:21-41

“Every one of us is, even from his mother’s womb, a master craftsman of idols.” — John Calvin

When the gospel truly takes root, it always uncovers and displaces idols.

Exodus 20:2-5

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” — St. Augustine

While idols are not real ‘gods’, they have the power of sinful human affection as well as demonic influence, and thus are not easily renounced.

1 Corinthians 8:4, 10:19-20

Christ died that our idols might be put to death instead of us and that we might be free to worship Him.

Colossians 2:13-15
