No Place Left | Gospel Peacemaking (Acts 21:17-40)
Acts 21:17-40
As people who have been reconciled to God by the blood of Christ, Christians should be characterized by humble peacemaking, not hostile warfighting.
Matthew 5:9; Colossians 1:20; John 18:36
“How beautiful true peacemakers are. Filled with peace themselves, they are honest about the state of the relationships around them. They are honest about what is in their own hearts and sensitive to where others are. They refuse to be satisfied with ‘cheap peace’, to say “peace, peace” when there is none. They are willing to risk pain and misunderstanding to make things right.” — Kent Hughes
Apostolic Peacemaking Principles:
- We don’t ignore relational tension, we address it, not with a prideful need to be ‘right’ but a desire to promote understanding and unity.
Romans 12:18; James 1:19, 4:1-3
- We willingly lay aside our preferences on non-essential matters in order to strengthen relationships with others, for the sake of winning them to Christ.
1 Corinthians 9:19-22; Romans 9:1-3
- We pursue peace even knowing it may not go well for us, trusting God with the outcome as we strive to do what is right.
1 Peter 2:19-23; 3:13-17
