Good Resolves: Prayer (Luke 11:1-2; Matthew 6:9-13)
Luke 11:1-2; Matthew 6:9-13
Jesus modeled prayer for His disciples as an essential spiritual practice and as one that needed to be taught.
Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16; Matthew 14:23
The ‘Lord’s Prayer’ is a framework for disciples of Jesus to use as they learn to pray with the right purpose and priorities.
“Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the heart and soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God has promised, or according to the Word of God, for the good of the church, with submission in faith to the will of God.” — John Bunyan
Jesus teaches us that faithful prayer is more about relationship than request:
– Orientation (as to our ‘Father’) Matthew 7:7-11
– Objective (the glory of God) 1 Corinthians 10:31
– Desire (the advancement of Jesus’ Kingship) 2 Corinthians 4:5-6
– Posture (in submission to His will) Romans 8:28
