Get Wisdom | The Pinnacle of Wisdom: Christ Crucified (1 Corinthians 1:18-31)

From the beginning of time, the human problem has been clear: All humanity desires to be good, great, grounded and gratified without God. And it leads to death.

Genesis 2:16-17, 3:4-6 // Proverbs 16:25 // Psalm 49:7-12

However, God in His kindness has offered a simple solution to anyone humble enough to receive it- The Cross; Christ crucified.

“No man understands the Scriptures, unless he be acquainted with the cross.”
— Martin Luther

“This is no mere question of controversy; this is not one of those points on which men may agree to differ, and feel that differences will not shut them out of heaven. A man must be right on this subject, or he is lost forever. Heaven or hell, happiness or misery, life or death, blessing or cursing in the last day – all hinges on the answer to this question: “What do you think about the cross of Christ?” — J.C. Ryle

The Cross may seem obscure and offensive to people who want to be justified by their own strength and intellect…

Proverbs 12:15, 14:9

BUT

For those who believe the gospel, the Cross is the profoundly wise and only way unto salvation: faith in the death of Christ on our behalf is what secures God’s gracious gift of eternal life.

“Both God’s love and God’s wrath are ratcheted up in the move from the Old Testament to the New. These themes barrel along through redemptive history, unresolved, until they come to a resounding climax – in the cross.” — D.A. Carson
