World Upside Down | The Ministry of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:1-20)

Acts 19:1-20

“There must not only be the work of Christ FOR us, but the work of the Holy Spirit IN us. There must not only be a title to heaven by the blood of Christ, but a preparedness for heaven wrought in us by the Spirit of Christ. Let us never rest until we know something by experience of the baptism of the Spirit. The baptism of water is a great privilege. But let us see to it that we have also the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” — J.C. Ryle

The presence of the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary in the lives of Jesusdisciples– for bearing witness that they belong to Him AND for empowering them to do true gospel ministry.

Romans 8:9, 15-16; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 12:3-11

The Holy Spirit can do whatever He wants to exalt Christ when and how He sees fit BUT people may not do whatever they want with Christ the Spirit to exalt themselves.

John 3:8; Hebrews 2:4; Acts 2:4, 8:29, 10:19-20, 13:2, 16:6-7

Two primary evidences of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer are genuine praise of Jesus and a decisive turning from sin in repentance.

Galatians 5:16-25
